Welcome
Agape Unlimited, a non-profit organization, was founded in 1985 by the current Executive Director, Barbara Day Max, as a chemical dependency Native American out-patient treatment program in Bremerton, WA. Agape Unlimited assists adults with alcohol and drug dependencies to recover from their addictions and become successful parents and citizens of the community. Agape provides comprehensive, affordable and culturally sensitive outpatient chemical dependency treatment, housing, childcare and case management services that meet the innermost needs of our participants, their families and the community.Agape, which is Greek for unconditional love, recognizes that there are seldom quick fixes to drug and alcohol dependency. Patients need to develop new life skills and new networks to succeed. For these reasons, Agape's treatment begins with an evaluation of all aspects of a patient's life. The goal is to design a tailored, structured program that will teach the patient how to build a new way of living, free of drugs including alcohol.
Treatment is intense, consisting of up to eight hours a week for the first three months, and then decreases as the patient progresses in treatment. Groups cover nearly every aspect of a patient's life, including relapse prevention, parenting in recovery, career development, and living/coping skills such as assertiveness training and anger management.
Agape Unlimited's wholistic approach is reflected in many of its "firsts." It was the first drug and alcohol program in the state to have on-site licensed childcare. It was the first in the state to provide transitional housing to pregnant and postpartum women. Because of its pioneering feature, Agape has provided training for agencies across the state.
Agape's approach mirrors the stated philosophy of the Washington State Division of Alcohol and Substance Abuse: "Treatment must be tailored to the specific needs of each individual, and a continuum of treatment services is essential for matching clients with the optimal phases and modality of treatment."
